Does one manufacturer make a superior Tumbler compared to another? We actually tested this several times (videos embedded in post below) and the results really surprised us. Many might be included to think that a tumbler made by Yeti or Engel will surely outperform an Ozark Trails. Turns out, the results of our test couldn’t be further from this assumption. See below to discover how much of a difference manufacturer AND color has on ice retention ability.

Yeti Tumbler Performance- Head To Head Challenge
Just how long can a Yeti Tumbler maintain ice? Yeti advertises 24 hour ability to keep ice. In our head to head challenge with Engel Coolers Tumbler, the Yeti Tumbler held ice outdoors in the Florida sun for 36 hours. Both the Yeti Tumbler and the Engle Tumbler made it about 36 hours. For what it is worth, we took a temperature reading after all the ice had melted, at the 36 hour mark, and the Yeti Tumbler was about 10 degrees cooler than the Engel Tumbler. Although, we can’t say the Yeti held ice longer than the Engel, it was colder for longer. Both tumblers handled 24 hours with ease.
In a more recent tumbler comparison video we matched up 9 different tumblers. Tumblers ranged in sizes from 20-32oz from various manufacturers. Ironically enough, the cheapest tumbler option, the Ozark Trail, held ice among the best. Furthermore, we tested both a Stainless Steel and a Black Hydrodipped (colored) Ozark Trail; both held ice amongst the longest. Therefore, the color of a tumbler had negligible effects on ice retention times. We have also observed similar results with roto molded coolers as well.

Why People Choose Thermoses
Whether you are boating in the winter, camping out in the fall, or going to work each day, it is often nice to have your favorite warm beverage with you. However, a basic coffee mug allows coffee and tea to cool off and become less “warming” and enjoyable. That is why many people choose to use a thermos instead of the typical coffee cup, especially when they prefer that their hot beverages stay hot for a duration of time. Thermoses can often keep coffee, soup and other liquids warm for 12 hours+.
What Makes the Best Coffee Thermos?
When you think of a cooler, you most likely think of how long you want your drinks and other contents to be kept cold. When you think of a thermos, you likely want your hot drinks to be kept hot for a longer period of time. The same technology that make roto molded coolers great, make tumblers and thermoses great as well; that is superior insulation.
In the case of a tumbler/thermos that is vacuum sealed insulation. That is where Yeti often comes to mind. They are well known and loved for their ability to keep things cold during the most extreme conditions. When you have a Yeti cooler, you can leave it locked in a hot vehicle for hours and when you return, your ice and your beverages will still be cold. This is because of their double insulation and fully sealed cooler design.
The same can be said for thermoses which keep almost anything you want warm (or cold for that matter). A variety of styles are available, including the best thermos for soup and travel mugs that make it virtually impossible to spill. Beyond the name brands, you should choose a thermos that offers double insulation and is vacuum sealed. These types of thermoses tend to keep hot items more effectively. They should also be made of steel as opposed to a plastic or glass because the steel will capture and hold heat better than others. You’ll also want to consider the lid-type of each tumbler/thermos. Some tumblers have open lids, making the susceptible to spills. Below are individual reviews of what we consider the Top 8 Thermos and Tumblers.
